Your Armor and Weapons

  • Ephesians 6:10-13 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
  • 2 Corinthians 10:4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
  • Colossians 2:15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
  • Isaiah 54:17 no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,” declares the Lord.

Your struggles in life are not natural but rather spiritual. You are fighting rulers, authorities, and powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Jesus warned us that we would have trouble in this world but to take heart as He had overcome the world (John 16:33). He has already disarmed the powers and authorities of the enemy and made a public spectacle of Satan and his cohorts and has given you authority over him (Luke 10:19). The only power the enemy has over your life is what you allow him to have through lack of knowledge of the Word (including your rights and privileges), disobedience to God, and not using the armor and weapons God has so graciously provided. You have access to the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-18). You also have an arsenal of weapons: the Word, prayer, your faith, the Name of Jesus, the Spirit of truth to reveal things to you, your own spirit which is a spirit of love and power and self-discipline, etc., and the King of kings and Lord of lords as your Covenant Partner. If you use these, you win!

How to use your armor and weapons to obtain the victory:
  1. Realize that you are in a spiritual fight and not a natural one. If you can’t see past the natural, you won’t be dealing with your true enemy. You’ll see circumstances that come your way as a part of life rather than the enemy’s goal to steal, kill, and destroy what is yours.
  2. Know your armor and weapons and how to use them. Read the Word daily, spend time in prayer, and ask the Holy Spirit to give you revelation. Be prepared!
  3. Know who your Covenant Partner is. Be like David in the face of Goliath and have the confidence to say: “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head.” (1 Samuel 17:45-46). See how powerful your Covenant Partner was to Elisha in 2 Kings 6:8-23.
  4. Walk in obedience to the Word and to the Spirit’s leading so that you have all the confidence you need to command your mountains to move in the Name of Jesus. Believe and receive.
  5. You have the power of love as a weapon against every attack of strife, division, gossip, judgment, etc. This is one of the most powerful weapons you have. When you use it, you keep the enemy at bay.

Call to action:
Get to know the weapons available to you and practice using each until you become proficient. Determine which to use in each circumstance. Just like a soldier is trained on what weapon to use in a given situation, you should also know, as a soldier of Christ, what weapon to use depending on the flaming arrow that Satan sends your way.
