You Are a Temple of God

  • 1 Corinthians 3:16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?
  • 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
  • Galatians 4:6 Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.”
  • John 14:26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

The Holy Spirit has taken up residency in you if you are a born-again believer. As soon as you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit came to indwell you and you became a temple of God. As a son or daughter of Almighty God, you are called to live a life that honors Him. Romans 12:1-2: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God–this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Honor God in everything you say and do.

How to honor God as His temple:
  1. Let the fruit of the Spirit be evident in all you say and do. Galatians 5:22-23: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
  2. Honor Him by getting to know Him daily through His Word and in prayer. Praise Him and worship Him.
  3. Partner with the Holy Spirit to do the things God commanded you to do. See the category Holy Spirit on this website to understand what He can do for you and through you and also how you can partner with Him.
  4. Seek the baptism with the Holy Spirit if you have not already received it. In Acts 1:5, Jesus commanded His disciples: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” Acts 1:8 describes it as an empowerment: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”.
