Live By Faith and Not By Sight

  • 2 Corinthians 5:7 We live by faith, not by sight.
  • Romans 8:5-8 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

You are asked to live by faith, to believe the promises of God and all that is written in His Word. Obedience to God’s Word and the leading of His Spirit is essential. You are not to live by what you see, by your circumstances, or by what you feel. You are not to be moved by obstacles or other people’s comments that do not line up with God’s Word. Living by faith will keep you grounded and will give you the victory. Living by sight will lead to defeat. Faith always sees beyond the circumstances. Faith trusts in God’s Word and stands firm on it. The Word says that the mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God and that He is not pleased with this. God wants us to realize how much He loves us and wants to bless us. He desires our complete trust (Proverbs 3:5).

The leper believed that Jesus could heal him (Matthew 8:2-3). Bartimaeus, a blind man, believed that Jesus could give him his sight and he didn’t let the crowd dissuade him from getting Jesus’ attention and obtaining his miracle (Mark 10:46-52). What miracle do you need to obtain by living in faith?

How to live by faith and not by sight:
  1. Romans 10:17 says that faith comes from hearing the message so read or listen to the Word of God daily to increase your faith. You can listen to biblical teachings as well. Believe what the Word says.
  2. Meditate on the Scripture 2 Timothy 1:7: “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” Your spirit is strong and well equipped. Let it develop and become a force in your life.
  3. Develop your relationship with the Holy Spirit so that you are led by the Spirit and not your flesh. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you, to guide you, to reveal the Word to you, and to tell you things to come (John 16:13). As you listen to His leading, you’ll develop your spirit so that it will rule over your flesh. Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires (Romans 8:5-6).
  4. Develop your faith to the point where adverse circumstances won’t move you. Come against them in the Name of Jesus and declare the Word over them. Use your shield of faith to prevent all flaming arrows from coming through (Ephesians 6:16).
  5. According to Jude 20, you can build yourself up in your most holy faith by praying in the Holy Spirit. Therefore, pray in tongues daily.
