To Love Him Is to Obey Him

  • John 14:15  If you love me, keep my commands.
  • John 14:23-24  Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.  My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.  Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching.  These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
  • 1 John 2:5  But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them.  This is how we know we are in him.
  • Deuteronomy 11:1  Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.

Jesus clearly linked your obedience to Him to your love for Him.  If you love Him, your thoughts, words and actions will reflect His commands.  The way you treat others, react to others, make your decisions and determine future plans will respect His Word and His leading.  Take time to consider His decrees throughout your daily activities.

How to show God your love through obedience:
  1. Spend time reading His Word daily and pay particular attention to His commands.
  2. Obey His commands by putting them into practice.
  3. Listen to God’s still small voice inside of you and let it guide you to do His will.
  4. Obedience comes more easily as you get closer to Him so spend time in prayer, in praise and in worship daily.
  5. When God tells you to do something, obey Him.  When God gives you a direction or instruction, it will always line up with His Word and He’ll equip you to do it.
  6. Develop a habit of considering His Word when making decisions and/or plans.  Seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance as He is the Spirit of truth and knows of things to come.

Call to action:
Take the time to reflect on the fact that God has directly linked your obedience to His Word to your love for Him.  Determine if you have to change anything in your life in order to fully honor God with your life.
