The Word, the Word, the Word

  • Ephesians 6:10-18 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
  • Matthew 4:4, 7, 10 Jesus answered, “It is written…’
  • Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and active.

The Word is so important that it’s referred to several times as part of the armor of God – the belt of truth buckled around your waist, your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace, and also the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. Your knowledge of the Word is a weapon. Hosea 4:6 shares that “my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge”. Jesus used the Word to counter the attacks of the enemy in the desert. The Word is the offensive weapon in the armor of God. It is paramount to know the Word to be able to use it in your everyday life to counter the flaming arrows of the enemy. You may see natural circumstances as just that but start using the Word in those situations and you might begin to see things a little differently.

(See the category The Word.)

How to use the Word as a weapon:
  1. Spend time in the Word daily and put it in your heart so that you can use it as a weapon like Jesus did against Satan. You too will be able to say “It is written”.
  2. When symptoms come on your body, counter them with the Word of God (Acts 10:38, 1 Peter 2:24, Matthew 8:17, Isaiah 53:5, etc.).
  3. Declare the Word over your situation, your circumstances (Job 22:28). Speak it over your life. For example, As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord – Joshua 24:15. The tongue has the power of life and death…. (Proverbs 18:21).
  4. If your feet are fitted with the gospel of peace, you’ll share the gospel with other people knowing it’s the best thing that they could ever hear. You’ll also use the Word to pray for people and bring peace over their circumstance.
  5. Obey the Word. It will give you the confidence you need to go boldly to the throne of grace.
  6. When you let the Word as well as the Spirit guide you, you’ll choose to walk in love instead of reacting to comments. The enemy won’t be able to get a foothold in your life in that situation.

Call to action:
Use the Word to counter every negative circumstance in your life. Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10). Just like Jesus, use the Word to counter his attacks.
