The Word is Your Spiritual Nourishment

  • Matthew 4:4  Jesus answered, “It is written:  ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
  • John 4:34  “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.”

You are to live not only on bread but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.  Whether you snack or feast on the Word of God is your choice.  The more you feast on the Word, the stronger you will be spiritually, that is if you are putting the Word in your heart and not just reading it with your mind.  If you snack on the Word once in a while, your life will reflect it.  If you feast on it, your life will show it and others around you will notice.

Jesus said that His food was to do the will of His Father.  Obeying God’s Word becomes nourishment for your spirit.  Let this become revelation to you, and you will view God’s commands in a whole new light.

How to feed your spirit:
  1. Start your day by reading the Word.  It’s not the quantity you read, it’s putting what you read in your heart and then into practice.
  2. Spend time meditating on the Word throughout the day by recalling Scripture and thinking about it.  The Holy Spirit will give you revelation on it as you persevere.
  3. Praise and worship the Lord using Psalms, other scriptures or simply declaring your reverence for Him daily and it will feed and bless your spirit.
  4. Obey God’s Word.  Just as doing the will of the Father was Jesus’ food, so will doing the will of God nourish your spirit.

Call to action:
Read the Word daily and let it nourish your spirit so that it will strengthen you for everything you will have to do and encounter throughout your day.
