The Word Is the Rock Upon Which You Can Stand

  • Matthew 7:24-27 Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.

Jesus said that everyone who hears His words and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. It’s not hearing His Word that will make you wise but putting it into practice. If you do, you’ll be able to stand against Satan’s schemes. You will not be afraid of the flaming arrows Satan sends your way (Ephesians 6:16), as you will be prepared. Nothing will harm you (Luke 10:19). If you choose to ignore the Word or not put it into practice, your house will fall with a great crash as Jesus warned. Choose to put the Word in action in your life.

How to build your house upon a rock:
  1. Read the Word on a daily basis to build up your spirit and strengthen your faith.
  2. Put what you read/hear into practice so that you are always a doer of the Word and not only a hearer (James 1:22).
  3. When you see an area in your life that is on shaky ground, go to the Word to see what it says. Adjust accordingly. Hosea 4:6 says: “my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” Don’t let that happen to you. Stand firm on the rock of the Word by applying what it says.

Call to action:
Give the Word first place in your life this month and determine to act according to it. You might create a habit of doing so and ensure that your house is built on the rock.
