The Use of the Name of Jesus

  • John 16:23-24 In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
  • Mark 16:15-18 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.
  • Acts 3:6-7 Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.
  • Acts 4:29-30 Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.   Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.

The Name of Jesus has power. At the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth (Philippians 2:10). People were saved in His Name. They were baptized in His Name. They were healed in His Name. They prayed in new tongues in His Name. People were set free from demons in His Name. Miracles, signs and wonders were done in His Name. Praise God that Jesus’ Name is still ours today and it still has the power to do everything it did as recorded in the Word. Jesus Himself said you can ask anything in His Name and it will be done for you (John 14:13-14). The early disciples, who really understood the power in the Name, rejoiced because they had been counted worthy of being flogged on account of that Name (Acts 5:41).

How to use the Name of Jesus:
  1. Read the Word, specifically the scriptures that use the Name of Jesus. Review how the Name was used and with what success. See how Paul used the Name of Jesus to cast out a demon out of a young woman who had a spirit of divinity (fortune telling) (Acts 16:18).
  2. Know who you are as a child of God and that you have been delegated the power and authority to use the Name of Jesus as His disciple. Exercise the power and authority to command the mountains in your life to move in the Name of Jesus.
  3. Spend time daily in the Word, in prayer, in praise and worship as well as praying in tongues to deepen your intimacy with God. You’ll have confidence to use the Name. Believe and stand for the victory.

Call to action:
Use His Name to defeat the enemy in your life today. Take authority over sickness, disease, infirmity, addictions, or any circumstance… all in the Name of Jesus.
