The Spirit Can Give You Wisdom, Understanding, and Revelation

  • Isaiah 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him—the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of might, the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the LORD.
  • Ephesians 1:17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
  • Acts 6:10 But they could not stand up against the wisdom the Spirit gave him as he spoke.
  • Deuteronomy 34:9 Now Joshua son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him. So the Israelites listened to him and did what the LORD had commanded Moses.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of wisdom and revelation. He is the very Spirit of God (1 Corinthians 2:11) and He lives insides every born-again believer (1 Corinthians 6:19). He was sent to be with us and He will teach us all things and remind us of everything Jesus has said (John 14:26). He will also reveal to us what is yet to come (John 16:13). Since we have access to Him, we have access to wisdom, understanding, and revelation for anything we need.

How to obtain wisdom and revelation through the Holy Spirit:
  1. God’s primary way to communicate with us is through His Word. The daily reading or listening of your bible will enable the Holy Spirit to bring attention to a particular verse. He can also impart revelation regarding a scripture and also use your time in the Word to prepare you for things that are yet to come.
  2. Develop your friendship with the Holy Spirit and fellowship with Him (2 Corinthians 13:14). He lives inside you and knows you intimately, even your motives. Take the time to listen to what He has to say to you. In fact, ask Him if there’s anything He wants to say to you. You’ll develop an ear to discern when He is speaking to you, leading you and guiding you. Be intentional when it comes to listening to Him and bring a pen and paper – not necessarily a personal digital assistant (PDA) as this might be a distraction to you and you would miss out on what He wants to say to you.
  3. Meditate on a scripture and ask the Holy Spirit to give you revelation in regards to that scripture. If you don’t get it right away, persevere until you do.
  4. Pray in the Spirit (in tongues) intentionally throughout the day. Take the time to pray in the Spirit for 30 minutes to 1 hour daily to develop and strengthen yourself spiritually. Bring pen and paper to write down what the Spirit shares with you.
  5. Spend time praising and worshipping God. As you do, your spirit will be more open to the spiritual realm and You can hear Him more easily.
  6. Ask God for wisdom whenever you need it. “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt…” (James 1:5-6).
