The Name of Jesus as a Weapon

  • Philippians 2:9-10 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth…
  • Luke 10:17-18 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.”
  • Mark 16:15-18 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
  • Acts 4:9-10 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.

If we understood the Name of Jesus, we would respect it, honor it and use it more frequently and more effectively. Jesus told us what we, as believers, could do in His Name (Mark 16:17-18). The disciples proved it in the Book of Acts by performing miracles in the Name of Jesus. In one instance, Peter healed the lame beggar and when questioned by the Sanhedrin said (Acts 4:10): “then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.”

In Acts 19:13-17, seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, used the name of Jesus but there was no power behind the name. They weren’t even recognized by the enemy. They weren’t acknowledged as believers.

How to use the Name of Jesus as a weapon:
  1. Review scriptures that refer to the Name of Jesus to understand all that it can provide you.
  2. Declare the Word over negative situations in the Name of Jesus. Command your mountain to move in His Name. Believe and stand for a favorable outcome.
  3. Know who you are in Christ and your power and authority. Jesus said that, in His Name, you could cast out demons and lay hands on the sick and they would get well (Mark 16:17-18).
  4. Use the Name of Jesus and the Word of God to come against the flaming arrows of the enemy. The thief, Satan, comes to steal, kill, and destroy; however, Jesus came that you might have life and have it to the full.
  5. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you revelation on the power of the Name of Jesus. Meditate scripture that refer to the Name.
