The Love of God Has Been Shed Abroad in Your Heart

  • Romans 5:5 … God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
  • John 15:12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
  • Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
  • John 13:34-35 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

You have the love of God inside you. His love has been shed abroad in your heart. You have a capacity to love that you have not even tapped into yet. That love can enable you to fulfill Jesus’ command to “love each other as I have loved you.” (John 15:12). You have this powerful force of love inside of you.

How to develop the love of God that’s inside you:
  1. Read the Gospels to see how much Jesus loved. Take some time to reflect that He gave His life for you while you were still a sinner. He extended love even to those who crucified Him. Once you have an appreciation of how much Jesus loved, maybe you’ll begin to understand the type of love that has been shed abroad in your heart.
  2. Meditate on scriptures about love and let your love for others develop as a result. Determine to imitate Jesus.
  3. Spend time thanking, praising and worshiping God daily – from your heart. It will transform you and develop love in you.
  4. Spend time in prayer and ask the Holy Spirit if there’s anything hampering the development of love in your life. Listen to what He tells you and act on it.
  5. Love won’t develop in you unless you are intentional about loving others. Look for ways to do random acts of kindness to show Christ’s love to those around you. Encourage a colleague, help someone in need, thank those who serve you, etc. as this is sowing seeds of love. Regardless of how your seed is received, what’s important is that you keep sowing.
  6. Forgive, in all circumstances, so the enemy doesn’t get a hold of your heart.
