• 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18  Rejoice always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
  • Philippians 4:6  Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
  • Ephesians 5:18-20 …Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns and songs from the Spirit.  Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Psalm 100:4  Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

We are to thank God in all circumstances and for everything good that happens in our lives.  We are to thank Him with all our hearts and tell of His wonderful deeds (Psalm 9:1); because of His righteousness (Psalm 7:17); in the great assembly (Psalm 35:18); to glorify Him (Psalm 69:30); to extol Him with music and song (Psalm 95:2); to enter His gates (Psalm 100:4); because He is good and His love endures forever (Psalm 106:1); for His unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind (Psalm 107:8); because He answers us and has become our salvation (Psalm 118:21); for His righteous laws (Psalm 119:62); etc.

How to give God thanks:
  1. Thank God for every good thing that happens to you.  By thanking Him, you glorify Him.  Psalm 69:30 states: “I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.”
  2. Thank God in song, in psalms and hymns (Ephesians 5:19).
  3. Thank God from a place of reverence and awe.  Hebrews 12:28 states: “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.”
  4. In your time of prayer, let it not be all about your needs and wants.  Take time to thank God for everything He’s done for you and everything He is.
