Sharing the Good News

  • Mark 16:15-16 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.”
  • Romans 10:14-15 And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
  • 2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage–with great patience and careful instruction.

Jesus told us to share the Good News, that every past, present, and future sin has been forgiven. He paid the price with His life (Isaiah 53:5). Individuals have only to receive this gift by accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9). Jesus didn’t tell us to preach bad news; we are commanded to preach the Good News. What people do with that information is their responsibility. Ours as believers is to share the Word and the love of Christ. Think of where you’d be if someone had not shared the Gospel with you. How many non-believers do you meet daily that are broken and hurting? Is there someone you could share the Good News of Christ with or show Christ’s love to? Be prepared to share when the opportunity presents itself. Ask God to guide you as you do.

How to share the Good News:
  1. Spend time daily with God through reading His Word, in prayer, in praise and worship as well as praying in the Spirit. It will keep the lines of communication with your Father open so that you can be sensitive to His Spirit’s leading.
  2. Be prepared by knowing what the Good News is.
  3. Imagine yourself sharing the Good News so that when the opportunity presents itself it will be easier for you to do it. Don’t fear man or what he’ll think of you. Realize that, as you share the Good News, you are obeying your Master’s direction.
  4. Pray for opportunities to share the Gospel and ask for wisdom as you do. It’s God’s heart that everyone would come to the knowledge of Christ (2 Peter 3:9) so He’ll help you when you ask Him. Be gentle and respectful when you share. 1 Peter 3:15: “…Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect… (Be wise if you are sharing during work hours that you are not dishonoring God by not working the number of hours you are paid to work. God wants you to honor your employer.)
  5. Remember that your life speaks for itself (2 Corinthians 3:3). You will be recognized by your fruit (Matthew 7:20).

Call to action:
Share the Good News with others. Also take the time to ask God if there is someone He wants you to share the Good News with, a heart that is already tender to receive Him. When He identifies someone or opens a door for you, take a step of faith. You can share your own testimony. Don’t hesitate to tell people what Jesus has done for you and that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6). You can share of Jesus’ great love as He gave His life for them and whosoever believes in Him will have eternal life (John 3:16). You may also want to leave them with the verse of Romans 10:9 – If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
