Power and Authority as Weapons

  • Matthew 10:1 Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.
  • Luke 9:1-2 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
  • Luke 10:19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
  • Mark 16:17-18 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.

Jesus is head over every power and authority (Colossians 2:10). He has disarmed the powers and authorities of darkness, triumphing over them by the cross (Colossians 2:15). Just as Jesus drove out demons by the Spirit of God (Matthew 12:28), so can you. He has delegated that power and authority to believers and He told us what signs would accompany those who believed. In His Name, you can drive out demons. In His Name, you can lay hands on sick people and they will get well. In His Name, you can talk to the storms in your life like He did to the natural storm (Matthew 8:23-26). With your faith, you can move mountains.

You are to use your power and authority in your everyday life whenever the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). Jesus came that you might have life and might have it more abundantly but you must exercise your power and authority to appropriate it. Take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

How to use your power and authority as a weapon:
  1. Learn through the Word who you are in Christ and what your rights and privileges are.
  2. Take your authority over the schemes of the enemy so that no flaming arrows will get through (Ephesians 6:16).
  3. Use the Name of Jesus combined with the Word to move the mountains in your life, to speak to the storms in your life, to counter all the attacks of the enemy.
  4. Since the power and authority that have been delegated to you are spiritual, spend time in the Word and with God daily to keep yourself spiritually sharp.
  5. Note that using your power and authority is like riding a bike. You might wobble at first as you learn how to do it but the more you know who you are in Christ and start using the Name of Jesus against the enemy, the better you will be at living a victorious life.

Call to action:
When the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, use the spiritual weapons that were given to you – power, authority, the Name of Jesus, the Word, etc. to defeat the enemy.
