Love God With All Your Heart

  • Mark 12:30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
  • Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
  • Matthew 10:37 Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
  • Joshua 22:5 But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

God must be your first love, the one you love above everyone and everything else. He must be your first priority, the one you consult when you make your decisions as to where to go to church/live/work, who you should marry, etc. Loving God with all your heart implies total surrender of your life to Him, yielding to His Spirit’s leading, and submitting to His will as He knows what’s best for you.

How to love God with all your heart:
  1. Give Him first place in your life by dedicating time to Him daily (not 5 minutes but a chunk of your daily schedule). Let this time with Him be non-negotiable.
  2. Let Him be your first thought of the day and surrender to Him daily.
  3. Live a life that pleases Him. Deny yourself and live the life He has for you instead of making your own plans. Consult Him prior to making important decisions such as which church to attend, where to live, and where to work. He has specific plans for your life and will reveal them to you.
  4. Love on the Lord during your day. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you. Meditate on God’s Word, and obey His commands. Jesus said in John 14:15 and 23 that those who love Him will obey His commands. Talk to Him and praise Him during your day.
  5. Serve where and in the capacity He wants you to serve.  Some areas will only be training ground for greater responsibilities He has for you. Be willing to serve cheerfully wherever He directs you.
  6. Love Him more than you love anyone else (parents, spouse, children, friends, pastor) and anything else (work, status, money, place, house). If He calls you to move, don’t be so devoted to those around you or love your home more than you are willing to obey His direction. It will delay your destiny or you may never enter into the fullness of the plans He has for you.
  7. Seek Him, pursue Him, surrender to Him, follow Him, look to Him, talk to Him, listen to Him, trust Him, abide in Him, delight in Him and cherish Him.

Call to action:
Love on God lavishly this week by spending time thanking Him, praising Him and worshiping Him. Be genuine and let Him know He’s first in your heart.
