Feeding Your Spirit

  • Matthew 4:4  Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

Jesus said that man lives on every word that comes from the mouth of God.  The Word of God feeds your spirit if you read it with your heart.  It builds it up and makes it stronger just as the right food does for your body.

At the beginning, you’ll likely have to crucify your flesh (body, will and emotions) to feed your spirit.  You will encounter interruptions and/or distractions that will prevent you from reading the Word and spending time with God.  Persevere to feed your spirit daily.  You’ll be much stronger for it and you’ll grow up spiritually.  Feeding your spirit will arm you to fight the enemy and overcome trials more quickly when they come.

How to feed your spirit:
  1. Read the Word of God daily.  It’s not the quantity that you read that matters but whether what you are reading is making its way to your heart.
  2. Meditate the Word of God.  When you read a scripture, ponder it, repeat it over and over and ask the Holy Spirit to give you revelation about it.
  3. Battle your flesh as it will want to do something else than feed on the Word.
  4. Come against distractions and interruptions by taking authority over evil forces that are causing these things to occur so you won’t read your Word or spend time with God.  Satan is the master deceiver and he’s very subtle.  You’ll believe all these distractions or interruptions to be natural but you need to understand that Satan’s goal is to kill, steal and destroy.  Persevere daily until your spirit is fed.  Remain strong in the Lord.

Call to action:
Read the Word today with the objective of feeding your spirit.  When you read scripture, determine to meditate on a portion that you want to understand better.  Meditate it (think about it, ask Holy Spirit to enlighten you) throughout the day.  It will keep your spirit full and healthy.
