Doing What Jesus Has Done

  • John 14:12-14 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
  • Mark 16:15-18, 20 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well. Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
  • Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.

Jesus calls us to do what He has done. We are to do even greater things than He did because, as He says, He is with the Father and He will do what we ask in His Name. Jesus preached, taught, healed, delivered, fed the multitudes, loved those He came in contact with and showed compassion wherever He went. He did all of this empowered by the Holy Spirit. Jesus tasked us to do the same and we can as we have the same Spirit inside us that was inside Him.  (See the category Healing and Deliverance.)

How to do what Jesus has done:
  1. Live a life totally surrendered and submitted to God. Spend time in prayer as Jesus did.
  2. Spend time praising and worshiping God to get closer to Him and to develop your spirit. It will be much easier to listen to the Holy Spirit’s leading.
  3. Get to know what Jesus has done to understand what you can do. You can find out by reading the Gospels, which represent the life and ministry of Jesus.
  4. If you haven’t received the baptism with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, determine to ask for it, as Jesus did His ministry work empowered by the Spirit (Luke 4:14). (See topic Holy Spirit Baptism.)
  5. Live as Jesus did and reflect His love and compassion wherever you go.
  6. Meet the needs of a hurting and broken humanity by praying for those who need it, laying hands on the sick and casting out demons.

Call to action:
If an opportunity presents itself to help someone in need, take a step of faith and be led by the Holy Spirit. Ask the person if you can have the privilege of praying for them. Don’t be concerned with the result and your reputation. You are asked to be Jesus to those around you. Mark 16:20 says that Jesus works with us to confirm what He said in the Word.
