Cleanse Yourself

  • 2 Timothy 2:20-21  In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for special purposes and some for common use.  Those who cleanse themselves from the latter will be  instruments for special purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.
  • Colossians 3:12-13 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.  Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone.  Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
  • 2 Corinthians 7:1  …let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.
  • Galatians 6:4  Each one should test their own actions.

Your spiritual life is totally dependent on your decisions and actions.  Where you are at spiritually is totally of your own choosing.  Romans 13:14 says to “clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh”.  The Word commands you to cleanse yourself, clothe yourself, conduct yourself, purify yourself, submit yourself, test your own actions, examine yourself, take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ, and rid yourself of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.  You have full responsibility over your choices and actions.  Philippians 1:27 says to: “conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.”  It’s up to you to decide if you want your life to matter for the kingdom or not.  It’s never too late to live a life for God and in a way that honors Him.

How to cleanse yourself:
  1. Spend time in the Word and in prayer daily.  Allow God to use His Word and His Spirit to guide you to make corrections as need be.
  2. When the Word says to cleanse yourself from something, then do it.  When it says to rid yourself of all malice, all deceit, etc., be obedient.  Cleanse yourself from the ways of the world.  God would never ask you to do something you couldn’t do.
  3. God never leaves you nor forsakes you so, if you need assistance, He’ll gladly help you if you ask Him.  He has deposited His Holy Spirit inside you to be your Counselor and Helper.  Call on Him as you purpose to cleanse yourself.  Ask Him to show you what you need to change in your life.

Call to action:
If you’ve neglected to deal with a negative character trait, repent immediately and ask God to help you change.
