Break the Alabaster Jar for Jesus

  • Mark 14:3  While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard.  She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.
  • 1 King 8:63  Solomon offered a sacrifice of fellowship offerings to the Lord:  twenty-two thousand cattle and a hundred and twenty thousand sheep and goats.  So the king and all the Israelites dedicated the temple of the Lord.
  • 2 Samuel 6:14-15  Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.
  • 2 Samuel 24:24  … I will not sacrifice to the Lord my God burnt offerings that cost me nothing.
  • Daniel 6:10  Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

Jesus deserves our unadulterated praises and devotion.  He sacrificed His divine powers to become a man and then, as a man, sacrificed His life so we could access redemption.  He left it all on the cross for us.  He deserves our genuine thanksgiving, praise and worship.  He deserves lives surrendered and submitted to His Lordship.  Are we willing to give it to Him?  Are we willing to pay the price for intimacy with Him and surrender to honor Him and all He has done?  Daniel knelt three times a day and prayed, giving thanks to God even at the risk of his own life (Daniel 6:10).

How to praise God lavishly:
  1. Put aside all non-essential responsibilities, your computer, TV, cellular phone and lavish God with love for an extended period of time.  You will bless His heart but you will also be blessed by it.
  2. Throughout your day, make it a point to acknowledge God by thanking Him, praising Him or honoring Him with your thoughts, words, and actions.
  3. Take a day to be with God.  Don’t allow any distractions to come against your time with the Lord.  Simply spend time at Jesus’ feet loving on Him.
