Blessed To Be a Blessing

  • Genesis 12:2-3  “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you;  I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”  (The blessing to Abraham)
  • Ephesians 4:28  Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.
  • 2 Corinthians 9:10-11  Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness.  You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion.

What a blessing Abraham received (Genesis 12:2-3)!  The Word says in Galatians 3:29 that we are heirs according to the promise.  Abraham’s promise belongs to us as well and we are blessed to be a blessing.  God wants to bless us and wants His blessings to flow through us.

How to be blessed to be a blessing:
  1. Read the Word to understand that God’s ways are different.  Jesus said in Luke 6:38 to give and it will be given to you, a good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over.  Choose to be a blessing to others.  It’s got to be a heart position.  When you receive something, share it with someone who is in need.  Start small (or as the Lord leads you) and you’ll begin to see the blessings in your life.  Continue the cycle.
  2. Tithing will open the floodgates of heaven according to Malachi 3:10-11.  You’ll be better off with 90% of your income that is blessed, than 100% of your income that doesn’t enjoy the blessing of the Lord.  Don’t forget to give cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:7).
  3. Follow the Holy Spirit’s leading.  God will prompt you to be a blessing to others as you are His hands and His mouthpiece on the earth.

Call to action:
This week, bless someone.  You can buy a cup of coffee, open a door, talk or encourage someone, etc.  Be blessed to be a blessing.
